If you’re thinking of getting a gym membership (or you think you’re paying too much for your current one), here’s a life hack I share with my friends: Get your 24 Hour Fitness gym membership through Costco.com (having a Costco membership isn’t required).
A good friend of mine first told me this tip years ago and it has been one of the best ones I’ve been able to reuse over and over again. I previously spent hundreds of dollars in setup fees and around $37/mo for the monthly fee. When you get the Costco pass you’re paying for a 2-year membership up front for ~$370 which comes out to pre-paying ~$15/mo. The best part is there are fees for activation or setup. Paying up front is never fun, but if you’re already thinking of spending the money for the hefty activation/setup fees, this is definitely a cost-efficient alternative. I save ~$600 every 2 years (and this is my 6th year doing it so it adds up).
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Does this actually work?!
A: Yes! I’m on my 3rd time renewing this membership (it used to be a little cheaper, but still an amazing deal). I’ve also had many, many friends use this successfully.
Q: Do I have to be a Costco member?
A: Nope. When you purchase it through their website you’re not required to be a member.
Q: What if I’m already a 24 Hour Fitness member?
A: No problem. You can cancel your existing membership over the phone and since you pay a month in advance and then call 30 days later to activate your new membership.
Q: What happens at the end of 2 years?
A: You re-purchase a new 24 hour fitness membership from Costco 🙂
Q: Does this work at all 24 hour fitness gyms?
A: This is an “All-Club Sport limited,” which means it won’t work at the super fancy SuperSport gyms. There is a more expensive pass if you want the SuperSport access ($650 pre-paid, $27/mo).
